Here is what I learned so far.
First this is not about making things. It is about learning things. So making 10k of an item will make you crazy.
Before beginning any of them it is best to max the aa's in all of them. Recipes call for sub-combines and and getting a random skill-up is nice. (I did not do this for Alchemy, but am still figuring this out.)
Once that is done
Figure out which TS you are gonna work.
Go to EqTraders and open the recipe list for your trade, say Blacksmithing. sort by trivial.
Open your forge and set your search for recipes between a trivial of 20 -50 maybe, too big a margin will fail as too many recipes found. Play with it and each time change the trivial number to include better stuff.
Compare the forge list with the EQTraders list and find one you do not know yet. make it and move on to the next you do not know -- do not make more than one.
You will get a note "You have learned" blah blah.
Here are some notes:
Nothing No fail will work
Nothing Cultural or Class only will work
Nothing that is made in an odd container other than default will work. like Coldain Tanner's Kit.
One last note. Now that items stack to 1k save anything TS related someone will need. if we all have 1k of an item it will help lots.

If by few, you mean 2500 or so (it's 450 per trade skill) :p

There are some books you can buy to learn items for that era that are not cultural or container specific. One such is Alaris Brews or Alaran Delicacies. You can get them from Scribe Zikett in POK. He also has cultural stuff (which I bought and learned yesterday not knowing about this post) which you don't need to buy.

There are some good guides for several of the tradeskills at the Township Rebellion guild site. Not a member, not even on their server, just found their tradeskill section very handy. http://www.townshiprebellion.com/tradeskills-home
